ODB2 version of CAT ET

ColdBlackWind · 2024-07-12 06:50

Anybody with experience dealing with this company and/or product? I am shopping and this odb2.ltd outfit keeps coming up in my searches. My problem is they have the same items listed several places for different prices on their website.

What are you wanting? If your trying to diagnose cars with OBD2 you can do that for about $30

Haven’t found CAT ET FOR $30. Requires laptop, software and Cat Comm adapter.

No special rules for them like in cars n trucks. So cat and all the rest can be as proprietary as they wish, as far as I know anyway. And yes with all the crap required emissions stuff on everything now, the gov needs to step in and force all such manufactures to use the same trouble shooting computer or On Board Diagnostics that are readily available at an affordable price, and eliminate proprietary anything on an engine control system. In other words a full bidirectional $160 or so foxwell scan tool should be made available for all large diesel engine applications, that can do anything a $20k factory computer can.

The problem is that technology is constantly evolving. Modern machines need faster communications. Cat's CDL is robust but slow by modern standards. J1939 Can bus was employed because it was a lot faster but now even that is too slow and machines are now using Ethernet. Some new Cat machines don't even use CDL any more.

Ah, for the good old days. My first Case backhoe, if it had gas & spark it ran. If it didn't run it was out of gas or out of spark. Remember those things? Joe H

They will use the excuse, it's for safety. If Joe Bulldozer Owner is allowed to code his new injectors with a Foxwell tool, then he will also disable all the safety interlocks, turn his engine up by 600 HP, delete his DPF and blow smoke like an old 988A.

Yeah, that is what you need to plug into CAT equipment. Don't let a China scam site Google keeps trying to push to tell you different. There are outfits that will remotely install it on a laptop and sell you a working adapter that says "Caterpillal" on the back.

My brother bought a pair of tennies in Africa that said "Redbook" if you looked closely. Joe H

It’s hard to pay full dealer rates to get poor service and inexperienced technicians. It’s about 50/50 whether you get the guy who knows his stuff or a greenhorn that’s getting trained at your expense. So it’s natural for people to want to have the access to do it themselves. The problem is the dealer needs to have proprietary capabilities to keep the doors open. They all have a lot of overhead to compensate for. If you can get the good service it’s not too bad to have the dealer take care of you but when you get hosed it stings.

It must be nice to have an electronic brick on a mine or job site 100's of miles from a dealer. And to think at one time I was into electronics, now, can't stand it. In the older days things were just easier, even computers, super easy with DOS and the old windows 3.1. Gosh even the old tube TV's started faster than some of the new stuff now. Now too much over complexity and on purpose designing to keep anyone from fixing the devices, electronics now has really enhanced the throw a way society.

Looking for some firsthand knowledge of someone who has successfully done so.

If you have any CAT Diag tool questions let me know, the only reason that you would need ET and SIS from CAT would be to release Stage 4 or 5 emissions latched codes, the customer level version doesn’t grant access for that. I train a lot of dealership groups diagnostics here in the US , what questions do you have, I’ll be happy to help

Just looking for a version of ET and SIS to download to help me on my 2018 299d2. I need the adapter and cables also. No wifi. I have a Toughbook.

I woujd highly recommend Alex at AristoTechTruck for any needs you have on diagnostic software. I sent my laptop to him and now have SIS and CAT ET 2024 loaded and have used both. Great communication and is here in the US. He worked with me on do’s and dont’s around sourcing a laptop and comm adapter.
