Have a 2019 t740, oil filter spins but will not come off.
Bugger. It happens sometimes. Will probably have to cut it off and investigate what is damaged. Hopefully its the thread stripped in the filter itself. Please post what you find so others can learn in the future.
Could be the filter crimp let loose. My old man had that happen to a coolant filter on an ISX. Had to cut the outer metal skin of the filter off and use an air hammer to get the remaining part of the filter loose and threaded out.
Sure enough, outer shell of filter was spinning on inner shell. 45 second job took 3 hours. Once I got it cut close to the base. Used a punch and hammer on inner filter housing to tap it loose.
Filter housing was slipping on itself. Cut it off and tapped it loose with a punch and hammer. A 2 min filter change took 3 hours.
Had a filter on a Cat haul truck that would do that almost every time, believe it was one of the spin-on hydraulic(steering?) filters by the left front wheel. After the first time I made it a point to use a small chisel to stake the outer can to the threaded part before even trying to unscrew. Also made it a point to only tighten by the instructions on the filter but still would be a bitch to get off at times.
Will try that, why do I not remember this ever happening 20 years ago??
