wait a minute, I see two mechanisms, I guess one's the engine and one's the injector pump? How do you tell them apart, they are exactly the same size? I wonder when they were made? And did they still make them after A-C?

1 cyl buda We have some clues to the little Buda's age from my copies of "Diesel Engine catalog".My earliest catalog where this size Buda shows up is the book from 1954-55. In it Buda is listed as a division of Allis-Chalmers and the little one is shown with generator and bare w/clutch. In the 1955-56 catalog the 1 cyl version is not listed. My next earlier catalog, 1945 does not show the small family of diesels. These were listed as the 1-BD-38, the 2-BD-77, and the 3-BD-153. They were all 3 7/16 x 4 1/8 and were apparently enlarged to 4-BD-182 and 6-BD-230 by a bore increase to 3 3/4. This 1-BD-38 was rated @ 8.5 HP @ 2000 RPM. The one pictured in 54-55 had a smaller fuel pump drive and a noticably less massive cylinder and head casting than the one Birkin posted. The fuel pump is not the large body but a Bosch type single plunger unit run from a camshaft and having an external rack linkage. Buda's large engine pictured in this book was a 8-DCS-2505 straight eight supercharged of 6 3/4 x 8 3/4 dimensions--516 HP @ 1300 RPM and 312 HP @ 700 RPM. IT offered starting by pony motor or air motor or 32 volt electric.
