? On How To Retrieve Fault Code For CAT D5G

Ls13rdgen ยท 2016-09-25 23:18

I have a 2007 Cat D5Glgp that is having a variable speed issue. I searched the forum and couldn't find a solution, or how to retrieve the fault codes. The serial # is RKG03303. Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi follow this guide and post results if the fault light circled is on Mark

Mark, thanks for the detailed information. As soon as I am around the machine, I'll retrieve the codes and post my findings. Is there a Cat generic list of fault codes to decipher what they refer to? Thank you again for your help and intetest.

hi, there are 4 ways the position sensor circuit CID 1693 can fail - FMI 03 voltage, high usually indicates open circuit in either the power supply ,return or signal circuit or faulty sensor FMI 04 voltage, usually indicates either an open circuit power supply or shorted signal circuit or faulty sensor FMI 08 abnormal signal, usually indicates duty cycle or frequency of the sensor is out of range can be caused by shorted power supply, disconnected sensor or faulty sensor FMI 13 out of calibration, usually only happens when a sensor or ECM has been replaced ET is required to calibrate the sensor if you are handy with a digital multimeter you can perform some checks your self . the position sensor in question is a digital sensor so will have a 8 volt DC supply to the 'A' terminal on the 3 pin deutch connector at the sensor, the 'B" terminal of the 3 pin deutch connector at the sensor is grounded back through the ECM so when checking power supply to sensor use these 2 terminals to connect your multimeter to. if this is correct you the need to check the signal coming from the sensor at the 'C' terminal on the 3 pin deutch connector at the sensor. this operates at a fixed frequency of 500 hertz give or take a few hertz.so set your meter to frequency to check this parameter. you will also need to set your meter to the duty cycle function so you can check the operating duty cycle at this point also and it should vary between 34% and 62% while moving the decelerator pedal. if at any time these readings don't match up, you will need to check the harness for opens and shorts between the ECM and the sensor ps. please check all readings with everything connected in the first instance. you can back probe the connectors with paper clips or buy dedicated back probing probes. I don't believe in wire piercing as it causes corrosion problems down the track Mark

If you need an Electrical Schematic for the tractor drop me a PM with your email address. It might help you when it comes to checking out the wiring for faults. It may be adopting a kind of scattergun approach, but as Mark points out there are only four possible Failure Modes for the Active Diagnostic Code you have. If you like drop me a PM with your email address and I'll send you all of them. You could do the diagnostic procedures for each in turn until you find the fault.

I've been into that last screen before and never got it to go into diagnostic mode. Maybe there is something I'm not being told? Maybe a serial number break?
