So you guys are building the new landfill? thats pretty cool, I am assuming more iron to come? Sounds like a unique job.
Awesome pics, love clearing timber, and shaping the earth into a new form(as long as its for the better) and building somthing you can be proud of. Trbo
well heres some of the logging crew clearing the trees.... its 37acres total that needs to be done, and its some pretty hilly ground ....and trust me it sucks trying to run silt fence on it:Banghead:Banghead .we got something like 10,000 feet of it to run .........so anyway after the trees are cleared its gonna be reshaped to be a big bowl to hold all the dreged materail from the river
and some more

Awesome pics! Who are the Subs? Your not to far from me!
the subs are ..E.T. Mackenzie http://www.mackenzieco.com/index.php their doing the bulk of the dirt moving and reshaping , and we're gonna do all the piping and getting it ready for the liner
Wow, Mackenzie has certainly boomed out of Michigan.
Great pics!
Explain the need for 2 rows of silt fence? man I know how hard it is to run silt fence on those steep hills, let alone some nice slick red clay! ok how many time have you busted your butt? haha looking good and look forward to following along!
i really dont know why the need for the two rows ,its whats in the plans so thats how we build it:beatsme yea havnt fallin yet and that red clay sucks:Banghead:Banghead got a few more pics from a buddy on the job
couple more
Great pictures i really like that CAT with the pan's, it's looking like a good sized project with alot of iron. I hope to see more pictures of this project! :drinkup
yea its not real big but big enough , they have some much iron cause they what it done so quick ,i think the scope of work they want it done by feb some time.....yea they'll be a bunch of pics cause now they gave the subs more of our work so we're just doing the pipe work now:beatsme and damn silt fence...so i got nothin but time to take pics we've got rid of one of the 320's for a IT62 or 64 i forgot and switching the D6 for a D5N with winch
what do they use the skid steers for on a job like that. I noticed you using it for silt fence but what else?
I absolutly hate putting up silt fence, I can't never get the fabric to look nice and tight. I hate putting in the post with rocks in the ground, I usually just push them in the ground with the mini excavator. that works pretty good till it hits a rock and the T-post bends. I'm not much on the hand trenching or backfill, I usually try to use the machine and end up pushing over some of the fence haha. Its more fun to knock down the trees!
well the cat is leaving when we get done with the silt fence ..i think. and the asv will be there as a do whatever machine , the company always likes having a skid on site , cause theres always pallets of stuff to unload or like on this job its exits into a neighborhood street we use a sweeper on it once a week ...its just a good piece to have it may sit some days but it normally doesnt
some from this week ...loggers are wrapped up ,just got to finish loading out trucks .....some of mackenzie loading everything else for the grinder....and u guessed it more silt fence:Banghead
more
last ones of this bunch
some from last week ....subs started moving dirt this week ,going kinda slow right now the terrain is still to steep in alot of places to pull the pans so they were loading them with the 365 but then they were still having trouble pulling them so they dropped down to one pan....
some more .... last one is the only postable one from them working in the dark ,damn camera the lights make to much glare
That silt fence will really make a difference....expecially on top of the hills :tongI never understood why you have to surround the project with it......:beatsme I could see the downside of the project not on top of the hill
some new ones ......really moving dirt now
more ....
and some more...... anyone tell wants wrong with the first two
nice pics jimmyjack... looks like somebody pulled their hitch apart, seen that happen before.
Looks like somebodys scraper decided to sit out a round or two.
lol....yup pulled the rear pan off:Banghead guess they dont like rock to much
sorry i'm fairly new to excavation and was wondering what the silt fence is for Thanks Steve
The silt fence is for erosion control, to keep any material (ex. mud) from leaving the site. The E.P.A. will fine you heavily if anything goes into a nearby creek or river. We have protected wetlands below our site and we have to check our silt fence once a week.
Silt fencing, single and double rows, check dams, temporary retention ponds, grassing, wattles, etc, etc are all part of the BMP (Best Management Practices) plan that the Civil Engineer designs for a site. The BMP plan is required before you get a NPDES (National Pollution Discharge Elimination System) permit from the State, which is required by the EPA for any site disturbance over 1 acre. Here is a link to the regulations. To say the least, the rules are quite stringent and a site inspection by the EPA can be grueling.:bash
