has anyone ever been the sole bidder on a government funded project? was it awarded? were there any legalities you found out about the award or lack there of?

I was a sub on a job with only one bidder. It was awarded without problem. The agency felt the price was fair, and they did not have enough time to re bid. I am pretty sure the prime bumped their number up when they realized no one else was coming. I have never been that fortunate though. Good luck if you have one. Need any help?

how do you bid on jobs like where do you go etc? Do you use those websites? I dont know the first thing about bidding on jobs...Im not looking to bid on something for 3.8 million but what about smaller stuff like gasline/water main jobs?

search legal ads in the paper. visit your local plan holders exchange (you will probably pay a member ship fee). we get a weekly magazine which covers several of the states we work in. you will need to have either a huge bank account or a bonding agency as you will need to put up a percentage of what you bid in cash as earnest money. this is where the bonding agency comes in. you almost have to start small and build your bonding ability. you will get a bonding agency to bond you for a $50k job and as you earn their trust you can get into bigger and bigger jobs. i have looked online in our area for bid announcements but haven't had much luck. it also helps to visit with the local municipalities and water districts and learn what projects they are working on soon. find who the engineer is and ask to get placed on the list for when they advertise. you will need to pay for the plans in order to bid. usually nonrefundable. usually around $100. other questions.

You can also look on www.fbo.gov for gov. bids coming up. only bad thing gotta know code word for type of job looking up. or use the search. To bid must be registered in ccr database.

there is a big difference though between doing a job for the fed rather than for the state or a municipality. i would much rather work for the state or city. working directly for the fed requires a much greater attention to detail and paperwork. the FBO site is for work directly with the fed.
