That machine is on a bunch of different threads throughout the site. Sure is an odd-looking but useful machine.

I work for a UP contractor. It looks like a tie gang that is in the yard. I will name the machines in the order that they are pictured. 1) TKO- Changes ties from either side of the track. Also riases the track to help with the removal and insertion. 2) Pup Tamper-It is used to either bust up the mud ahead of the TKO, or to lightly pull the ties back up to the rail for the spiker. 3) Tie Crane- handles the ties, picks up the old ones and lays out the new ones. 4) Excavator with a cribbing bucket- we use them on Backhoe to change ties. 5) See #4 6) That is a tie inserter - it works much the same as a TKO, clamps the tie so you can pull it in.( Cheating) 7) Ballast Plow- I have only been around one of these. It pulls the ballast up off the shoulderand levels it all in one pass. It is also sweeping the track at the rear of the machine. Kind of a one pass wonder. 8) Tie crane, doing its thang 9) Spiker- it does that, it can also pull the ties up against the rail.( takes 2 operators and 1 helper) 10)Thats all hope this helps. Heath
