I have a problem with a 973 older model when warm moves very slow. The rite track seems strong on turns but the left is dead when sitting at an idle i hear a surging from the trany and a thud like sound from left track .im thinking a bad track motor . i removed the top cover from the trany and linkage on livers on the inside are sloppy for the brakes. also when i bring rpm of engine up half throttle oil is almost like spitting up from left side under the valve with the large spring around it . can any one help with this problem.
Sounds like a blown servo hose. Drain enough oil from the trans so you can see bottom of valve, start it up and you should see leaking hose. Make sure you disconnect and plug brake line buy fuel linkage. Linkages under cover are for steering and should be sloppy, Don't adjust anything. Servo hoses need to come from dealer. Not made at hose shop, left ones are different length. Any questions just ask.
Welcome to HEF pasinead1991. :drinkup You don't have enough posts for me to send you a private message, but I'd like to change the title of your thread to something like "Cat 973 tranny problem, help" in order to catch the eye of the Cat guys here. Would that be OK with you?
Well, and overworked responded as I was typing. LoL
I think the clunking from the LH track motor is a worn out bushing in the two speed servo cyl. With it running and making the noise lean on the track and try to feel the track surging. When the piston moves in and out the track moves. Should have someone in the seat holding it out of park so brake is released. Will talk more tomorrow. Later Bob
Drain filter housing and remove filter, pull filter apart and let us know what you see.
