Parking Break Issues on a Cat 242

A guy I work with is having problems with his parking break on a 2003 Cat 242, CMB prefix. The parking break sets randomly while operating the machine. We have had dealer techs out here 2 times, this is what they have checked: Checked all sensors connected to setting parking break, checked seat switch, checked arm rest switch and wiring, checked park break switch and wiring, checked solenoid for hydrostatic valve and found nothing, hooked up to ET and checked codes and found nothing, checked operation of arm rest and park break and both operate fine. Checked voltage to park brake solenoid. Tightened all grounds. Checked software and found it didnt have the latest implement software so flashed ECM with updated software. After all of this the problem is still occuring. And of course it hasnt acted up while the techs are testing the machine. The park break sets randomly, maybe once a day in an 8 hour shift? Any ideas? This problem has been occuring since 2009, the owner of the machine has just learned to live with it but I am looking to provide a solid solution to this problem so it will not continue happening in the future. Thank you, Tony

I would get it fixed as well. It cant be good for the machine to be driving along and having the park brake apply itself. Not to mention hard on the operator. I once had that problem with an operator who did not weigh very much and if he came off the seat at all during operation it would lock up. Perhaps operator position has something to do with the brake activation.

Thank you KSSS, this was the problem we were having, we discovered the operator would occasionaly lean forward to see the bucket edge better and he was coming off the seat just enough to disable the machine and set the park break. The seat switch was overly sensistive as well. We replaced the seat switch and adjusted the seat forward more so he would not have to lean as far forward and this so far seems to be the fix, thank you again Tony

We had similar issues on our 16M graders if the operator was a tad on the light side. Seat would lift and park brake would come on.
