The machine has 5000 hours on it. It runs real rough and has a knock. Is there supposed to be a hole in the side of the block where oil can get out?

Big enough. Konatsu quoted $17500 for an engine.
I'd try some equipment salvage yards. got to be able to get a better price then that.

it has a cummins 6.7l in it. i just about volunteered to give the engine out of my pickup to get us going after the komatsu price. we found one out of chicago for $9500 delivered. i will post the vendor tomorrow when i find out who it is.
