So I built a pond yesterday for a guy. Aproximatly 75' round, 8.5 deep at the the middle, cone shaped, aprox. 60k gallon in volume. Moderatly sloping field feeds it, maybe 4 to 1 slopes. Soil type the best red clay around. Sticks like glue when wet, hard as a brick when dry, almost impervious to water, almost rock free, this is covered by a thin layer of dark topsoil. When you dig into it the water pours out from the seam between the top and the clay. What size pipe should I be dropping in? Currently planning a 15" ads smooth bore for the main discharge and a low spot on the edge of the dam for emergencies.
Depends allot on how much acreage drains in to the pond . Also amount difference in elevation of the drain pipe to the emergency spillway . We put in a 2.5 acre lake that had about 6 acre's draining in to it . Used 6 " sch 40 pvc pipe for the drain . Have 4 feet of dam on top of the pipe . When the water gets 2 feet over the pipe its at the edge of the emergency spillway . This type of setup makes the lake / pond work somewhat like a dry dam with the 2 feet of capacity and letting the water drain down slower . We built it back in 2012 . It's went over the emergency spillway two times but not violently . Owner said it ran easy about 3 inches deep . Did you use the TD 15 ?
yeah did it in an afternoon
Cool ! That's a nice size tractor for allot of jobs .
oh its got to be 2x the tractor my deere 550g was. Yeah its on the big side for tight quarters work, but you don't worry about having enough tractor when your trying to winch a concrete truck or something.
Yeah , we have a TD 15 B oil field tractor . Has 8 foot strait blade on front & carco #50 winch on the back . Handy rig for various utility tasks . Hey I forgot to mention ...... Give your county Soil conservation service a shout , they have all the info on these type of projects . http://extension.psu.edu/natural-re...ement/pond-construction/construction.pdf/view
the way scs allways does it is like 4inch thought dam 6inch riser 6inch thought 8inch riser . this way makes more water go out thought pipe. most time on dug pond just put pipe in spillway 6inch under spillway
sounds similar td25, mine is a ih 15c, 12' angle blade, carco 50 on the rear, forestry sweeps and rear screens. If I get to needing 2 dozers I want to get another 15 or a 20 with a ripper.
