Hey guys, i'm looking into purchasing a 420dit, What's a reasonable amount of hours for a machine before i have to worry about replacing everything. The one's i've been seeing are around the 2800-3800 hour mark and 5-9 years old

hours are important but you realiy got to look over the machine. 2000 hours and bent metal no grease broken glass and motor oil like tar no good.

check brakes, how do they feel, parking brake - does it hold in 3rd fw? and check hand throttle and foot throttles....make sure each reach high idle stop on fuel pump and make sure hand throttle doesn't go to high idle and then creep back a bit...does foot throttle pedal stick? its not so much hrs i'd be worried about its what has the machine been working in/around? you can have a machine with 1800hrs on it and be in worse condition then one with 5000hrs and looks brand new...so was the machine used hard, heavy digging with backhoe (could be needing welding repairs from cracks and pins and bushings or shimming) and lots of loader pushing and plowing? (check the welds around the pin boss's that hold the loader arms to the frame as they can crack)
