push loading Back in the late 70/80's worked in Durham/Ral area, we push loaded are ts14/18/24 with a D9g, D8, D7,D6,82-20b,82-30, old girls C6's, had rear push blocks on some of the dozers, soil changed often top/clay/rock/sand stone/gumbo and the bowl pans did a good job with the ground conditions. The ejector and roller did well (greased often to prevent worn pin and roller flat spots) along with good opperators not allowing the pusher to pack there bowls to the point that it became hard to eject the load. All the TS's would self load to a point depending on the cutting edge setups and in some materials will load with distance a full load with out pumping the bowl into the ground. I liked the 14's the best, and the loading time's changed depending on material, job layout,dozer/pan drivers. I would stick with a D9 size to push with and a cushion blade to take the 14's for a ride, may need two or a larger one for the 18's depending on the soil.

I agree, a D9 would be best for fast loading, but a decent D8 would do OK. Anything smaller and you lose too much production. Speed is what it's all about on a stripping contract. TS14's and 18's load and dump much faster than Cat has been my experience.

When I was working for a company that did developments they used cat d7h, k, and xrII, d8r & t. Pans were terex 14b & g, some of the g's push pulled. If you kept to topsoil, ts-14g's should be able to push / pull their way thru. Never seen it done but i've heard of running three scrapers together push / pulling. If the topsoil came up easy sometimes we would run solo stripping topsoil. You will probably want to have a dozer w/ ripper on site as well.

Down time will kill you with Terex, go with 51's with 2 9's pushing

51s are not really good machines for the midwest. The ground usually has a high moisture content. Ive never had much downtime out of a terex scraper. In fact, most of the time, our 627 crews also had a Terex scraper or two sent out to the job as a back up machine. The cats run like a raped date, but when they break, they are down for a while. We had a 627E break a rear spindle, the tire tried to pass the cab on the haul road. That machine was down for a month while we waited on parts.
