I'm not Brian, but in heavy construction "big dogs like to play with the big dogs". Large infrastructure projects require large quantities of everything to make the job happen as soon as possible.

Ok this is the best I can do for you. http://www.shelbycountyhistory.org/schs/industry/scraper.htm While they have been modernized a whole lot since then, the principle is the same. Since 1876 they have played a constant roll in moving dirt. Today we have alot of other machines that have taken some of the jobs away from the scraper, but for certain things, nothing works like a scraper. I think there will still be scrapers in another 130 years, probably automated, but still scrapers.

Hi counter, I think scrapers will always have a place. There will always be roads and railway tracks to build and rebuild, subdivisions to build, dams and dugout to build and clean out and land to level for different reasons. There may not be as many large projects and trucks have surely taken over a lot more of the work in wet conditions but scrapers will always have a place.
