GTL06038 cat 279D 2014. when i run the hydro for the quick coupler/attach into the retract mode - one of the pins gets hung up and will not retract. i think i have to tear it apart or perhaps replace the spring? any ideas of whats best before i start to break it down for parts? the pin does not retract when i work the hydro but only on one side.

Isn't the quick coupler setup for your machine Serial Number the one highlighted in Green (" Found in Product Configuration ") directly below the one you are looking at.? It may not make any difference at the end of the day but some of the links in that 515-8580 Arrangement seem to give better/more detailed parts breakdowns.

Dumb question - Have you kept the pins well greased? Skid QC's require a ton of grease on the pins to operate. If we are working with 8910 stone (limestone fines) we'll have to grease the QC pins and the bucket pins a couple of times a day.

yes, i think the parts are there - just not sure what i start tearing apart to get at it - sometimes there is an order in taking it apart, if not ill just start at what seems right.

i think the prior owner skipped it. when you pull them apart and clean them up - then they work? or should i figure to replace stuff too? I was wondering if the spring lost its springy..

Try WD-40 or PB Blaster on the pin - really soak it from the top and work the hydro's. We have to use use penetrating sprays from time to time when the dust and grease get packed in there.

ill def try this to get it to unstick, then take it apart and find out why - or weak spring?

Like I said these couplers are very prone to locking up due to fine debris packed in there. Not just Cat all of them. You may not need any parts once you get it moving and keep it greased.

Cat redesigned their QC in their most current series. The previous design in my experience was unnervingly slow and prone to lock up. Having hyd cylinders on both pins individually is much better. CNH has been doing like that for decades, its fast, much more powerful so debris is not an issue. The only downside to this is more plumbing of hyd lines.

Sometimes OP you have to smack the pin with a hammer to knock it loose. Have someone in the cab hold the release position while you tap it in.
