Rain damaged pond in NZ

HSV127 · 2018-05-06 06:56

We got called out to empty out the effluent/rain water that was in this new pond (3 days old!)that got damaged by heavy rain, they had 10” in 12 hours. Water found its way down to the leak detection pipe coming out from under the pond and just washed a whole lot of dirt in under the liner pushing it up and messing up the side wall and leak detection system!

Good to see you around HSV. That looks like a mess. Soil seems too sandy for pond building even with a liner.

Yes and yes! Was the heaviest rain on record for our area.

Thanks, good to be back. Yes it’s fairly sandy but their problem was they dug the trench for the leak detection to the uphill side of the pond where surface water pooled and probably not enough compaction when backfilling. They were pretty gutted to say the least! Never an easy job trying to redo a liner!

Yeah I know, makes you feel a bit insignificant when you see water at work! Haha

We had a 6 inch rain fall last year about this time . Rain came overnight & caused allot of trouble for folks in it's path . Allot of flooding & damage from the fast water .
