I have a 1989 series 2 D4H dozer that i ran out of fuel. I put 20 gallons of diesel in it and it wont start back. I havent had it very long and dont have a shop book for it yet. I was wondering if someone would be kind enough to tell me how to go about gettn the air out of the fuel system. Thank you so much!!

Pull the filters off and fill them full of fresh fuel. If it has a hand primer, pump it until your arm falls off. Crank engine over. Repeat as neccesary.

Please do NOT fill filters with fuel. The centre of the filter is what supplies the engine so when you first start up you are getting unfiltered fuel into the engine. The best way of bleeding this engine is as follows: - On a machine equipped with Fuel Priming Pump 1. Unlock the priming pump plunger. 2. Operate the plunger until resistance is felt. 3. Push in and lock the plunger. On a Machine not equipped with Fuel Priming Pump 1. Loosen the fuel injection lines at the cylinder head of the engine. Use two wrenches to avoid breaking fuel lines. 2. Move the governor control lever to the LOW IDLE position. 3. Turn the start switch key to START. Crank the engine until fuel flows free of air bubbles from all fuel lines. 4. Stop the engine. 5. Tighten the fuel line nuts to a torque of 40 ± 7 N·m (30 ± 5 lb ft).

I would like to thank both of you for your prompt responses. Im only 25 yrs old and have no experience with heavy equipment. My parents arent doing so well and ive been stressed so much an when this thing wouldnt fire back up i was just about ready to give up. This is an excellent place to learn from. My dozer does have a priming pump and i did as yall said and she fired right up thanks so much!!!!! Now i can get back to cutting this house seat for my brother! lol

An operators manual is a very good place to start and you can get them off of Ebay: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trksid=m570.l1313&_nkw=d4h+operators+manual&_sacat=0&_from=R40 It'll make things easier.
