the engine is guage is saying that its overheated.. one day when i was removing the hood from my 580B it caught on to the radiator cap causing it to break off the radiator. im wondering if i can solder or weld it back in place. and also the cap looks like it needs to be replaced it dosent hold any pressure at all , and is not fitting on tight.. any suggestions Please? could this be the cause for the overheat?
With regards overheating - is the radiator core clean? Grass / Dirt restricting air flow? With regards to soldering your radiator - it probably could be done witout removing radiator, with the proper know how. What does it look like in the top tank? Rusty? Are the tubes restricted by any scale? If this is so, it might be worth removing the rad & taking it to a repairer & have it cleaned - it might just fix the overheating problem.
I agree with alrman, remove the radiator and have a radiator shop go through it, well worth what it will cost you. I have re-soldered filler necks, can be difficult to do. Even if you flush the system clean of glycol antifreeze using plenty of water, the antifreeze is impregnated in the radiator. When you heat the filler neck to solder, it vaporizes residual glycol antifreeze and contaminates the solder. Slow headbanging process.
