Ok, I was wondering about what harmful exhaust fumes are generated when your machine goes into the "Regen" mode and using the DEf fluid. This cannot be healthful for the environment, plants trees ext.
Sunshine , butterflies and rainbows. Allegedly water vapor and carbon dioxide and free nitrogen . Without aftertreatment, HC, CO & NOx
The plants, trees, butterflies and rainbows are all good, the environment that is adversely affected is the financial ecosystem of my business.
Def when heated turns into ammonia
DEF is urea and water and when heated to exhaust temperatures in the vicinity of a catalyst breaks down into nitrogen and water. This link provides a better explanation. It does not form ammonia. What is diesel exhaust fluid and why is it more important than ever? - CNET Diesel Exhaust Fluid and selective catalytic reduction are working to make diesel cleaner more efficient than ever. www.cnet.com
It does turn into ammonia that is what attaches to the Nox and gets trapped in the scr filter however there is never a 100% capture of the ammonia. That is the the next stage some manufactures have NH3 sensors that read the amount of ammonia slip and some have added a clean up filter after the scr to catch any excess ammonia
Yeah, no. There is no trap in the SCR side. Ammonia is released, there is no conversion. Proper dosing minimizes free ammonia. The NH³ sensor helps minimize the cat **** stench.
DEF is consumed all the time, has nothing to do with regen.
Except that some mfrs cease dosing during service or parked regeneration
SCR Diagnostics with Tailpipe Analysis
On the Deere system, we have an AOC (Ammonia Oxidation Catalyst) the end of the run.
LACHAU is shooting for poster of the year again. LOL
Hmmm. Looks different. Post #11 is a video. Can't tell without hovering a mouse over it.
Sigh . . . oh for the good ole days
I fixed it. Got rid of those restrictive mufflers so deaf people can feel the Jakes on full song downhill with 60k on her back.
Lol . . . I hate strait pipes. I mean, I like a good sounding truck, just as long as some other guy is driving it all day.
