I am going to flush the chain drive case on my 1845c with diesel as per advice from this site. What do you guys do with the dirty diesel?
goes into the waste oil tank...either gets recycled or thermally treated on site for BTU recovery.
Great for starting the morning fire in the barrel stove
Or washing parts, then lighting the wood furnace. Steve
or lighting a burn pile...
I agree with the others. Diesel is the best fire starter, not as volatile as gasoline and burns hotter.:thumbsup
Keep it for cleaning dirty parts. When it gets too filthy then it goes to the burn pile or gets recycled with the ten gallons of 10-30 that you will be changing in the hydraulic tank. First use some/most of the old hydraulic oil to refill the chain cases then recycle the rest. Jack up the front of the machine and pour the diesel in the front chain case opening several times to flush the gunk out the drain hole. Get one of those long reach magnet gizmos to fish out all of the old metal debris left in the chain case. It's always interesting to see what is left in the bottom of case. I found multiple cotter pins, master links and some mashed up UFOs. Good luck SimS
