Rescuing a cow with a backhoe

Rally_Action ยท 2010-04-26 02:07

Guys, Something we don't see everyday out here. These pics were taken today in the outback of Western Australia. A new water bore is being drilled and a large discharge sump was dug next to the drill rig. This daft cow climbed over the bund to get a drink and got stuck in the soft mud in the sump. Took us a few hours to get the cow out. The E-Hoe certainly came in handy! Ground was far too soft and muddy to get the machine any closer. Good news is the cow is fine.... Karl

Nice pictures. Never heard of this happening before. Cow no doubt was happy about it. Should forward the pictures to Case, they may have a newsletter. I used to have a backhoe that died burying a goat. Maybe a 'rescue' thread is a good idea. Komatsu did a write-up in their magazine on a D375 rescue of a Russian tank. Phil

Thanks Phil. I think the cow was happy when we got it out. It's calf certainly was. At one point we had to chase the calf off so it didn't end up in the mud with us and the cow. Good idea on the rescue thread. I'm sure there's plenty of rescue stories out there. Interesting article on the tank recovery too. I'd like to see how the tank looks after restoration. Karl

Awesome stuff cows will always get in some stupid spots. I lifted a mid size heifer out between a fence pole and a building one day. I have no idea how she got stuck there but we figured she'd of jumped atleast eight feet in the air to get stuck.

Deer overboard No one was hurt when this happened except for a very bruised ego. It required the services of a big wrecker to lift it out of the lagoon. Vermont was where we found it. Sure if there had been a good sized excavator close by we could have used that but there wasn't. Who says deer can't swim? John
