Sand for Mounds

How do you calculate the amount of sand needed for a sand mound?Thanks for any help

    sand mound ??? HxWxL devided by 27 i think

    Yep, LxWxH divided by 27 = cubic yards

    I am assuming this is a sand mound for a septic leach field? First of all determine the dimensions from the engineers plan and then use the formula's posted above. Don't forget a swell or shrink factor, as that will determine how much sand you need to truck in. For instance (HxWxL)/27= Cubic yards, then multiply that amount by the swell factor (for sand it can be 30-40%). The formula would be: HxWxL = Total cubic feet, divided by 27 = Cubic yards. Multiply the cubic yards by the swell factor in this case 1.3 or 1.4 = total CY's needed. This would be the amount you would have to truck in.     That's what we're all here for. Even easier when using the metric system, if your HxWxL is in meters, no need to divide by 27 to get cubic meters.

    and divide the yards by 1.4 (on average) to get the tons.
