How well did the sanders work that dumped sand infront of the tires of a truck. I can remember seeing some years ago on a beer truck which would have been good with all the stops he made. We have alot of ice right now. Yesterday i jackkniked my pickup and gooseneck trailer in my driveway 30 feet from were i was parked. The trailers neck was almost into the cab protector.
They were effective but temperamental. We had them on the fire trucks in years past. We had to purchase grit made for that purpose, the least bit of moisture in the grit and it would freeze up in the container making the spreader useless. We had the luxury of a heated garage too. In addition, the amount of grit was very limited, we still chained up if roads were bad. The trend today is Insta-Chains which are lengths of tire chains mounted on a small wheel. By activating a switch this wheel swings down and rubs the vehicle tire, centrifugal force then throws the chains under the tire. Most school buses around here have them.
