So, for the sake of conversation, speaking completely hypothetically... you're wrapping up a cut and fill job, you have a 10 acre cut area, a 10 acre fill area, you have 1' left to cut, and 1' left to fill, you have a fleet of 631s with adequate support, and a fleet of A35s with adequate support (hoe, dozer, ect) you have the option of using either fleet, and the money is the same regardless... which one would you use?
It would depend if it was 10acres of mud barrow pit or 10 acre of rock limestone. There always more things dependent on what your going to use to make money. Not always cut and dried.
Think if it wasn't rocky, scrapers by a big margin.
631s unless it's extremely wet or rocky. Scrapers excel at shallow cuts over big areas.
In dirt, scrapers by a long shot. A one foot cut is ineffiecient. With an excavator unless the dozers pile it up, which drives up the cost per yard.
Yair . . . If running excavators (speaking hypothetically) I can't see why a job would be planned to have just one foot of cut on the final floor. Cheers.
I was assuming dirt of suitable quality and moisture content. My line of thought was that depending on the quality of your operators, it may be easier to end up undercutting your grade with sizable scrapers. I agree with everything you all said. :notworthy
Purely hypothetically, maybe there was a change in material, and the different types had to be split and separated. :beatsme
In the scenario you describe and in anything other than rock, scrapers. Absolutely no doubt about it. Rock would throw up its own set of complications.
