Does anyone have any information on setting the pressures on a 04' Cat 320 for a Gentec plate compactor? We are having trouble as its blowing out seal on pump on compactor. Any info is appreciated. Thanks
Have you checked the back pressure on your return line? Does the return line go directly to the tank?
Serial number ?
Serial # CAT0320CLPAB04571
It has 2 Hyd lines coming off pump which go to aux.lines on stick. No return line. Does it need one?
You can use the aux. lines although your return line should be larger than your pressure line. The biggest thing is you don't want your return line oil going back through the control valve. You need to install a 3 way ball valve or a diverter valve inline so you can send your return oil directly to tank.
U have a two 2 way system This system is for use of a shear A blade compactor needs a one way system ,it needs a return line not going trough the main valve
I run my compactors on my 320 machines with the program set to "one-way" pump control. And seldom do I have to change motor seals. I run NPK & Allied...they both are 2300psi @ 40gpm.
What year are your 320's? Ours is a 2004 and we are trying to set programming to "one way" pump control but not having any luck.
U can't programming it
Some systems are programmable. Depends on which system is factory installed. Type 5, 14, 17, etc...
On my 345C, I had to add a return, not because of back pressure, per second, but rather, the heat generated by returning thru the valve. I add a 3way ball valve on return line, and routed it to the swing return (largest hose on swing motor). This way easiest way to ensure low return pressure, and that the pilot went thru the cooler. 10 hours shifts running a 10,000# rated hammer @ 80gpm would bake the hydraulic oil to the point of derate. Never had an issue after that.
