slipping track

Siegfried ยท 2013-01-10 20:28

Hey there, just came in from adjusting my tracks on the old TD15 B (1975) through the 1 1/2 inch pipe plug on either side above the final drives as one side was starting to slip, must have turned it in too far and now it will not back out anymore as a result left side now really slips. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you and kind regards Sig

If you were adjusting the screw in then you were going the wrong way and pushing the brake fork and brake pad away from the disk. so that wood make your track slip worse. If you go to far the other way it well cause your planetary brakes not to release in time and pull against your pivot brakes. I don't know if you could have adjusted the adjusting screw out of the fork and now its trying to cross thread when you try to go back. it doesn't usually take to many turns to make this adjustment.

Adjustment Thank you for this info, at this pint it does not seem to be out of the threads in the fork, I can turn it in further easy just not back out, I might have to remove the top in order to see what is going on inside, that was the part I was trying to avoid. Sig

you can take the inspection plate off the rear of the dozer and look in and you can see the brake fork at the top of the fork you will see a big spring this is were your 1/2 drive extension goes through to the adjusting screw. on the other side of the fork you will see the end of the screw. the screw has a cup on the end of it and a push rod goes from the cup to the cup on the bellcrank. when adjusting, back off the adjusting screw until you can just barely move the push rod back and forth a 1/32 end play. now your planetary brakes are adjusted. if your tracks still slip after that then your brake pad are worn out or glazed over from slipping. but that's another story.

Thanks again, I will have to drop the winch in this case, but that is probably easier then taking the the top cover off?! Sig

I have the hyster winch on mine its not to bad to get off takes about an hour. getin it back on can be a pain trying to get the splines in the drive shaft to line up

This one has the cargo 50, just wondering, If I have enough room from the back end to get working on the thread/screw? Sig
