ive found on one of the parts sales website that there are numbers on the cylinder gland nut to determine if they are single piece cylinders or multiple piece for the seal kits. my 580 has not a single cylinder with a stamped number on the gland nut. other than taking it apart how can i tell if its a single or not? the serial i think is 5263299 or 8724266

Welcome to HEF killfast ! You can't with any amount of certainty. Are you asking about the cylinder piston ? The only sure way to determine what it has, is to take out and check it. Unless the machine is new, it is impossible to tell what someone stuffed in the barrel in years past. The gland may not be the original one.

8724266 is gonna be the machine serial #, 5263299 is for the hoe assy'. Don't know about B, but all gland nut #'s on my C are stamped into the flat end of the nut and will probably start with a G followed by 5 or 6 digit #. Get ends real clean and look close. Kits on Broken Tractor advertise same kits for B or C. When you get around to disassembly don't forget the little keeper screws between gland nut and tube.

Ive cleaned the ends pretty good, to the point the paint has come off. there are no numbers. so i guess ill just have to wait till i pull them apart to order the rebuild kits. thanks
