Interesting to see the the larger trucks not have the ISX 600HP. All of the three drive axle trucks did have a 2nd gear box behind the cabs.

Planetary rear ends and triple frame rails. maybe an admin can take out the dupicate attachement 90885 from the last post and add this one instead please. The time has expired for editing.

DirtHauler I removed the duplicate pic but really didn't want to get into as much to add that picture to that post - little lazy this Sunday morning... Besides, a set of planetary's needs it's own post anyhow.

Thanks CM1995. Those planetaries do make a nice ending to the photos.

this is what the tandem steer axles will look like when they get the winch truck beds installed. not all these have the tandem frt axles but you get the picture. they are one of the handiest trucks ever invented.

The blue T800WH with the lift axle looks to be a Carlile Transportation unit, probably headed up here [Alaska] as a lowboy tractor. I wonder if the 2 tandem steer/tridrive are'nt going to be set up as picker trucks for the oil patch. Camex Equipment in Alberta builds picker trucks, bedtandems &other oilfield trucks& they have some good pictures on their web site, I found it when I was looking for pictures of picker trucks after a trip through Alberta & northern British Columbia.

What exactly are the Planetaries, can some one point them out to me? Are they like a unimog axle with a gear set at the hub? One more question what are those links at on the backside of that axle, looks almost like a steering set up. Sorry for all the questions dont get see to many of these trucks in western pa, starting to with the shale gas boom. i have always been intrigued by them since seeing them on tv all the time with ice road.

Yes a planetary axle uses a gear set in the hub for farther gear reduction. This reduces the stress on the axles and rearends. Here is a video of the principle. The last portion is the one that most accurately shows whats going on for this application. The three small gears are attached the the outside of the hub while bolts to the tire, the large outside gear bolts to the axle housing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ECljAo1q1RQ The link on the bottom of the axle is the walking beam suspension. Here is a photo of what that looks like in the bottom of the photo. All the weight of the truck is transfered to the axles by the beams that hang from the bottom of the axle housing.

I am truly impressed! There are no trucks like this in everyday use in the UK.You Americans have the number one position in the world for amazing, awesome and superb big rigs. I know Australia is the home of the road trains so please lets us have some pics from the Land of Oz as well, thanks
