any grader operators out there involved in dirt track speedway preparation.
Yup, Been doing it for 13 years. Shoot me your questions :drinkup
I have never done it but owned a sprint car and some guys can prep a track and some guys can't. Bedt of luck
Nowing, As you probably know, all dirt is not created equal. When it comes to dirt track racing, the track prep is an art that some have, some have not. We can prep the same way 2 nights in a row, and a 10 degree change in temps will throw us for loop. Temp, humidity, wind, sunny or cloudy (or portion there of) and car count, can all factor in how the track prep goes. Some nights we nail it, some nights we get nailed.
And if it's an afternoon race, everybody get's nailed- LOL.
hi biggrader we have the same variants here in australia.new years day meeting,80 sprinters plus45 support class,42c degrees 5 pm start andthe sun dont set till 9.30. lol been doing it for 28 years now and have seen everything except snow! we have expanded our big meeting (grand annual classic) to 3 days . friday hot ,saturday warm , sunday warm then rain in the b main .this makes it hard to judge what to do when building . its either hero or zero .lol
We are scheduled to have a test and tune at the local track on the 30th of this month. I was out there a couple weeks ago and the frost boils had just started to come out. going to make for an interesting start. rest of the track looked good but having random soft spots is going to make it fun. First full race the first week of May.
Shaggs what do you need ?
Nothing in particular bases.just interested in any of us doing this type of grading,in the scheme of things there would not be many dirt track builders . Giddy up shaggs
where have you been grading dirt tracks shags? I have four graders and have built runways ovals sports grounds, trotting tracks and recently been asked to do a race track .
Hi bases, sorry I took so long to reply, I've been over to the west for a wedding. I prep the track at premier speedway Warrnambool vic .this year at the classic we had the equal to or maybe the largest sprint car count for an event in the world.as it has been said it is a black art to prepping tracks, there's so many variables. Weather is the boss, then car count, car type, the start time and of course day light saving giving us an extra hour of sun. At some events the tyre compound ,soft or hard , can affect the track by making it go slick quicker and taking rubber. If you want a challenge take it on . It's not always good as things can go pear shaped quickly and you can't control it,but when it all gells together and you make the right calls it is a good feeling .so I say give it ago but give yourself so time to work out the track set up. Only time will tell if it's for you or not. Giddy up shaggs.
Sorry bades ,I slipped up on your name. Giddy up shaggs.
