I'm looking to start a trucking Business . My thoughts are of buying a straight job logging truck and work my way up from there. The oxford hills area as well as oxford county seem to be a very busy area fore timber harvesting. My question is can you buy a truck from a Companey and possibly buy the trucking contracts to go with it. 2.After researching both sides it seems very sustainable market end of the business was run correctly it could be very profitable. So I'm looking fore some in put good or bad I would like to hear what your thoughts are Thank you
Not sure how it works in Maine but here most of the log truckers hold the contract at the mills to deliver X amount of logs or pulp wood in X amount of time. They buy the wood from the loggers on the landing and resell at the mill. All pay by mill scale. As long as they own the wood they can run under agriculture rules instead of commercial. They get by with farm plates if the truck is used only for wood and the drivers need not keep a log book. The truckers that have built up a good reputation with the mill and have a good customer base do real well, but it does have its ups and downs like all other business'.
