Does the backhoe actually float or is very low ground pressure. I've seen a few setting in fenced lots and have always wondered.

A lot of them do float. A friend of mine that owns a group of sand mines bought one at auction, when they put it in the water, it floated at about a 25 degree angle. They tried everything they could think of, finally paid the manufacturer of the undercarriage to fly a mechanic in. My friend picked him up at the airport, when they pulled in to the mine site, before he got out of the pickup, he said, "Turn it around, you're working over the wrong end. I'm ready to go home now." There are a few more of them around here, and they definitely do float. They will even dig a little while floating, but to really dig, they need to be able to touch bottom, or be spudded down. http://wilcomarshbuggies.com/marsh/class-excavators/
