T190 Coolant

NCPIPELINE ยท 2012-05-25 09:41

So yesterday one of my guys left his machine in the yard for the day, greased it all checked the fluids and there was no coolant in the bottle, refilled and today after running it he says that it is empty again? Thoughts? Was it just bone dry, and after running it it is in the radiator? Did not see a leak anywhere... but you know that doesn't mean there is not one I suppose... What ya guys thinking? :Banghead

If it has a heater, check the heater hoses, they like to rub on everything. Put a pressure tester on it and look for the leak, wiggle hose clamps and check around the radiator. Water pumps are pretty rare. I have seen a couple leak where the hose connects to the bottle. What ever it is, find it now, kubotas do not like overheating at all. A T190 should go into shutdown before it cracks the head, but not always.

What do you mean a heater? Like for the cab? This machine is an open cab, the other one from the sprocket thread is an enclosed cab.

Did you know for sure what type of coolant is in that Bobcat? Bobcats came with propylene glycol coolant, don't know if ethylene glycol will mix it.

The coolants will mix, nothing horrible will happen but it is not recommanded. You end up with an untestable mixture. Prop glycol is enviromental friendly, only reason it is used. When changing coolant, putting green back in is fine.

I think it's moreso for ANTI-freeze aswell. We use ethylene Glycol down here more commonly because we dont need the antifreeze. Long term coolant mixing is not good. Chemical reactions can create an accelerated amount of corrosion. Moreso with Aluminium heads etc...but it's not hard to drain the whole lot and fill with one type...for what it's worth..dont be lazy

top it off again. start it up, and take a whiff of the exhaust. A/F has a sweet smell when it's burning. check for an external leak, most common place is the left corner, (flywheel end) back of the engine (tailgate side). tell tale sign is accumulated dirt and crud in the area. block petcock could also be leaking, especially if it has the old style (non brass) petcock :drinkup
