tail gate latch in need of repair to close tight, ? how to do it.

On my dump truck the pin (that is welded onto the bottom corner ends of the tail gate) on each side of the tail gate; that the trail gate latch closes, is worn on the bottom where it hits the dump body. It is about just over 1/8 say it is 5/32 worn out of round. This results in the tail gate being open 1/4 inch when closed. How does one repair this?

Either cut the old pin off and weld a new pin on, or, weld the worn part of old pin, build it up with weld, then grind it back to shape with grinder. Shouldn't be too difficult to do.

Some boxes have a turnbuckle that you can tighten to make the latches take up the slack, or you could build up the pins with weld.

Either weld back what is worn down or weld rebar on the inside of tail gate when closed to get a good fit just a few things I've done

weld up the worn area easier than trying to free rusted turnbuckles add a bit to the latches to if needed

our turnbuckles were rusted solid so we found a spot where the rod is in good shape. Cut a chunk out and welded it back togethere. took about 15 min. a side. Now the gate is tight as a drum.
