Takeuchi (TB-138fr) Air-Con Issue

diga ยท 2009-07-04 17:33

Hi there guys, just wondering how many other guys out there have got issues of some kind with their Air-Con(factory fitted)? I purchased this machine NEW 14 months ago here in Australia, paid $79,000-00 AUD including 4 buckets and hydraulic quick hitch, more than happy with the machine in general,BUT the air-con is useless, the air temperature at the (vents) at the start of digging is around 8-9 deg/c,within 3-4 hours i am seeing 16-19 deg/c(21 has been the hottest),which in our summer months, means a CAB TEMPERATURE over 30deg/c!!NOT GOOD. The dealer has been claiming they have never seen this problem before, funny that! but after talking to other forum members, this problem has been an issue for some time.I have had the machine to Air-Con specialists here in AU,they claim it is typically undersized for our climate, nothing new! Simply pull most of the system out, bigger condenser(externally mounted with remote fan),bigger evaporator,$5000 later, but who pays??? Your air-con guys in the U.S say they dont work over 80deg/f as well, how come Takeuchi cant figure that out? So the bottom line guys, if your in the market for a new digger with an air-con cab,go and operate someones first and you be the JUDGE!!!!

Hi Diga, Good to not hijack some one elses thread finally hey. Mate i don't know what the answer is .I know and you know if it doesn't work properly under warranty They should fix it. But try convincing them that . I know for a fact there was one jcb 8080 sold in qld before mine .I have talked to the owner or should i say ex owner,he said he could see the writing on the wall with the dealer with the problems he had with the machine while it was under warranty. So he got out of it . He did tell me on his it overheated and air con didn't work properly .The dealer pulled the whole system out and put a roof mounted unit on.Fixed air con problems and fixed overheating problems.Great hey!!! I was told by the salesman, all problems with the first machine had been fixed and all modifications had been carryed out on mine. When i complained about the air con, they put an adjustable therumistate on it ,which didn't help any..Unfortuneatly i didn't find out about the roof mounted air con fix on the other machine till after the warrenty ran out and finally after 18 months of being stuffed around, got told If i pay $2000 they would put the roof mounted air con on.I told them why should i pay for something that was a warrenty claim, now they won't talk to me at all.We have a air con in our new holland 170 skid steer that apart from small things playing up every now and then ,it works very well.It was intalled in brisbane,I will check with my son the name of the mob who did it and let you know. With the trouble you have with "reputable" brands can you imagine what the owners of chinnese stuff go through . I have never bought any thing through the brisbane takeuchi dealer but over the years since they first kicked off selling second hand gear i have been impressed with the way they did things ,so hopefully they will do the right thing by you, maybe with a little prodding from a solisiter but it shouldnt have tocome to that. Us little blokes dont seem to matter much to any of these companys, Any way its after midnight so i will catch you later .ian.

Takeuchi Air-Con Issue Hi Ian,good to hear from you! Would you believe i was only wondering if i should of had a better look at the JCB's when i bought mine! I guess you just answered my thought, just i drove a JCB(3cx) 4 wd hoe for a number of years, good machine i thought! Getting back to the Excavator issue at hand, yeah there has been suggestions the evaporator is (freezing over) by another forum member,if his theory was correct, when the temp starts to rise and the evaporator has (frozen) why when you push the air-con button to the OFF position, does the temperature just continue to rise, one would think as the evaporator started to (de-ice) the air would get colder as it was drawn through the evaporator core?? There seems to be a lot of machines that have the same air-con issue in various brands that are all (icing) up,if that was the case!! Regards,Peter.

Hi Diga, I guess it comes down the the fact that they put in the cheapest unit they can and hope it sees out the warranty period ,after that it's not their problem . Hows the rest of the machine. What i have seen of their 8toner the rams and every thing else looks twice as big as my jcb.Dealquip have a scecond hand one up here with 4000 hrs on it.Would like to give it a test drive and see how its standing up at that amount of hours. One guy on another forum said both of his ones boom pins and bushs flogged out at very low hours. I tryed asking the other guys on the same thread if they had the same troublesbut could'nt get any of them to reply back. The best thing about this forum is that it is mostly guys that sit on this machines every day and they call a spade a spade ,not a shovel or a diggy thing . Good to talk to guys not afraid to give a fair dinkum opinion and have moderators that don't stomp onthreads unless it is well and truely needed .ian.

Hey Diga. I think there's two sorts of freezing mentioned here. Iron Horse is talking about the system freezing internally. I doubt that would be happening given you've had the system inspected, dismantled, and re-gassed numerous times. The other sort is where the evaporator (inside unit) is freezing over and ice covers all the coils blocking air flow through the unit. I think you'd know if that was happening because of the reduced air flow and the fact that it takes a long time for the ice to melt. Personally, I think the unit is simply under-sized for the application. While the cab is only small and should be easy to air-condition, the company has not made enough allowances for all the heat inputs particularly from the hyd oil tank, roof, and windows. Actually they probably did calculate it accurately (they're not stupid) but cost cutting measures or physical dimensions dictated installation of a smaller unit. All the best with it. Hi there you guys, good to see you joined up(AussieChris),and thanks for your input to this issue,Hi Ianoz, yeah really happy with the rest of the machine at this point, still only done a bit over 600hrs,but i keep it greased regularly and change the engine oil and filter every couple hundred hrs, oils cheap i figure! The pins around the boom swivel area are pretty big on the Taky's,no sign of of any wear on my machine anywhere at this stage! Have seen an 8 tonner out at Earthquip when i was buying mine, yeah your right about the ram sizes(big)! I would imagine the pins and bush's would be of according size, the used one they have up your way may have had new pins and bush's done prior to being sold anyway? Wonder what the Air-Con works like?(bad joke)!!! catch-ya.
