Terex TA30 HELP!

INDREM ยท 2010-04-27 09:48

Does anyone know a Terex field service tech. for TA30's, or know any information about them. I can't find anyone in the U.S. that has worked on these enough to help me diagnose some problems I'm having. Terex headquarters technical support literally read the troubleshooting guide out of the service manual to me. The truck computer monitors everything but your heartrate. When it throws a code the manual tells you to shut down the machine and resolve the issue. The manual does not cover any sophisticated issues or go into resolving them outside the general mechanical scope. I need machine specific techinical data or an experienced tech that has run into this problem. Story: ZF transmission was rebuilt by us and dyno tested by ZF. The cooler was flushed and every line pertaining to the transmission was removed and flushed. They have all been checked. They are not plugged and they are all connected correctly. Rotella triple protection 15w-40 was added and adjusted by the book. All temperatures (monitored at cab and with guages)and pressures measure correct. Breather and solenoids all checked out. AEB starter was run twice to calibrate the clutch packs. The TECU was sent out, cleared, and reprogrammed by ZF. Problems: When machine is started the oil gradually works it's way up the dipstick and does not fall between the normal levels (almost to top of fill tube). When the machine is shifted into auto drive the machine will not rev up correctly (like it's dragging). The machine does gradually pick up power and a fault code WT and C3 will appear which means torque temp is too high. It will not shift into higher gears in automatic mode, but will shift fine manually. All temps. read with a thermal gun are correct. Torque was rebuilt and like I said dynoed fine. All the temp sensors were hooked up and operated correctly on the dyno. The engine does not throw any codes either. We have checked the oil level pre-start and running every time we have started the machine to verify no aeration or an incorrect oil level. I need to talk with someone experienced in working with these machines so we can determine what issue this machine has. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I have the Terex Artic. factory service trainer here with us for a week. We just sold two TA27's and getting them ready for the customer. Maybe he can contact you. Send me your contact in and I will give to him.

Solution Found the problem. There is a valve on the side of the transmission that controls the retarder and axle lock via solenoids. It is bolted to the frame and does not get sent with the dyno. We checked the electrical connections and everything worked but we were almost positive there was something wrong with the retarder. We removed the line that engaged the retarder. BINGO! The valve had a spool inside that looked great but there was a slight amount of oil bypassing the spool. It slowly built up until the retarder was fully engaged thus heating up the trans. really fast and dumping the oil causing the stick to read incorrectly.
