we have farm land we rent out. that was deeded over to our 2 kids about 6 years ago with understanding, they can't sell it, borrow against it...we get all the rent revenue, we pay the taxes...and it's totally theirs when we're both gone.
Might not. Spouces have inheritance rights, unless they are protected, divorce might change things.
All the above is why we are doing the legalities before we die.
our daughter divorced before we made the transfer. we love our daughter in law like a daughter. if our son and wife have problems....which i think will NEVER "pray" will happen, he'll have issues with us. she's a true sweetheart. daughter in law's family has waaaaaaaaaay more money than i'll ever hope to have. she and 3 siblings own 8k acres of farmland in northern north dakota. should daughter ever remarry, hopefully she'll insist on a prenup.
If the BIL fell asleep and sister died because of it couldn't he be held liable for some kind of manslaughter? Your mother was right it could have been prevented. If you're that tired you shouldn't be driving. If there were kids maybe they should some inheritance but not him.
Sister came down and stayed this weekend . We had several good conversations about getting rid of and selling stuff. I would like to be able to give some younger people advise on stuff that i have had to deal with but would they really listen ? Would i have real listen ?
Long story. Yes it was preventable. My sister shares some blame. Neither had been sleeping well for some time. Their daughter & her family had moved from Wisconsin, to New Hampshire, nearer to them. Daughter's new home was 100 miles from theirs. After visiting them, they drove home, got there after midnight. Short night sleep, Sunday, they went 45 miles to Home Depot, had lunch. They headed home, a mile from home he drifted off, hit a heavy pickup head on. No one else in the family hates him, Mother did.
I thought this forum was for our deceased fellow members and maybe their family members . Exchanging legal advice and opinions here somehow strikes me as odd. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong.
you're absolutely right. i should have started a new thread. sorry about that.
Moved the thread over to General Industry Questions as this topic pertains to business succession, dissolution, etc. Thought about moving to TGIF but that just didn't feel right given the topic.
Whole heartedly agree no church, funeral, just barbecue my ass have a party and sprinkle me around the property. My problem (or lack of problem) is am single, no kids what to do with my estate? Not Rockefeller by any means. Thought of adopting 18 year old Asian chick to take care of me into old age.
