My cat dealer brought out a 2006 d6n lgp for me to demo and im kinda thinking about buying it but wanted to make sure i wasnt overlooking something on this machine or buying a piece of crap. For starters it has 4500 hrs, vpat, lgp, fourth valve, erops diff steer. Undercarrage is shot imo so they are going to throw a new bottom in on the price minus the labor. Also the cutting edge looks like it was just flipped, tower bushings seam tight also. Appearance id rank it as "good", but obvious it wasnt in a shed any of its life like typical construction equipment. It was at a sister cat dealer in MO as a rental until now. The are wanting $102xxx. Any input
Our D6N, has mostly been a good tractor. Jasexc, The D6N's are a good tractor. That said two things we have had repeated trouble with on ours sense it was new. 1) The HEUI fuel system, We have had a very hard time getting it to start in cold weather ( less than 15deg F + or - And it will not start at around -10 F +or -. This winter we were trying to build a logging road with it and just had to give up with all the extreme cold weather we had here in PA and just let it sit!! I used one of the old D6C to build 1.7 miles of road instead.(Ole 6C still starts fine at -20) Next winter we will switch the D6N to 10W-30 or lighter engine oil instead of 15W-40 and see if that will help overcome the cursed HEUI fuel system..?? We have also had a bout with coolant leaking past the injectors and in to the engine at around 6,200 hours. 2) We have had to disassemble and completely rebuild the 6 way PAT blade tower and ball and socket twice in about 6,000 hours as it just will not stand up to the work that we do. Seems likely with a LGP's extra blade width stresses would be much greater..?? Other than that it has given very good service and is easy to run but above and beyond all other consideration it has earned good income for us!! Good Luck, Chum..
