Good evening all, i'm looking to purchase a used skid steer and have come across a few Thomas skid steers for sale. I was wondering what kind of reputation they have, are they still being produced and parts availability. Any opinion would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance , Stephen
Hi Stephen, unfortunely Thomas skid steers are no longer produced and parts are limited but in my opinion they were built to last. Most models came with Kubota engines and are simple to operate and service. As with all used machines it can be a bit of lottery when it comes to choosing the right machine but finding one to suit you just ask plenty of questions from previous owners. Paul
Thank you Paul i appreciate the reply. Yes the majority of them do have the kubota motor which i know are reliable. Knowing they are out of business tho might make other parts hard to come by. I'm in no rush so i'll wait for the right deal to come around. Thanks again, Stephen
Thomas used a lot of off the shelf parts it shouldn't be too hard to find parts for them and they were produced in large numbers. The company is still around I believe producing the walk-behind style mini-skids so you might be able to phone them and see if they still stock parts.
Thank you 245dlc for your response. I'll check around and see if the company is in fact still in operation or if there is parts available . If anyone out there has owned these machines maybe you could tell me how they faired as far as breakdowns or obtaining parts. Thanks, Stephen
Friend of mine owned Thomas skid-steers for years he swore up and down by Thomas and loathed Bobcat, he'd probably still have one if it wasn't for a divorce a few years ago. http://www.thomasloaders.com/index.asp
