Tilt Cylinder Seal Replacement

Don't want to be too long winded, I've been lurking on this forum for quite awhile, but just joined in order to (hopefully) get some help. Due to a variety of factors our loader does not get steady exercise, accordingly when it is needed we routinely have to fill the hydraulic tank with multiple gallons of oil. We know some of it is coming from the tilt cylinders, which we hope to tackle ourselves, but are there other areas of concern in the fluid path that need to be included in our forensic investigation? As for the tilt cylinders, I have read several threads on this forum that give me hope this is something we can take on, even with our limited skills. First specific question: a local Cat field service technician replaced an entire lift cylinder on the machine not long after our purchase, when he supported the load arm he told me their practice was to put the control in the "float" position to keep it from attempting to "crush" the support stand. I haven't seen this mentioned in the threads so far, is that not a good idea or needed when accessing the tilt cylinders? Any advice would be most appreciated

No need to worry about float bucket will be on the ground for that one you will have the operator wiggle the the tilt control until the big pin on the rod end slides right out then you can either take the cylinder all the way off or support it strait up in the air and pluck the rod out depends what you have for lifting Then figure out a way to support and keep the rod from twisting to undo the nut its a good idea to put a mark on it for re torquing back to near the same spot it was
