hi One of the tracks have started to come of the digger on regular basis, i have some expert's around they say the cog and trach are fine and not worn out. Where you put the grease, the spring on that unit is broken, but has been for a long while, the track tighten's okay. The track does seem to have a lot of movement left to right across the width of the track. Do you think that the broken spring is the cause? thanks Phil
If they are steel track, the most common reason for the track to walk off is that the pin and bushes are worn on the track chains allowing the track to move out of alignment and come off the bottom rollers usually on turns. The broken spring won't help but if the tracks are tight enough it is more likely bad undercarriage components.
preilly, I have seen excavators run with a broken spring for a long time. It you have one coil broken, I would keep running it. If the spring is broken in more than one place you need to replace it. Those springs are like loaded cannons and can be extremely dangerous. As far as your track moving side to side, I would make sure your bearings in your idler are still good. I would also check the wear in your frames where the idler rides. If your frames are wore you will need to weld them back up. Good Luck, Quicktrax
I agree with Quicktrax, I had to replace the Idle on mine its a cheap part and easy to install, but Ill ask you this, how are you doing your turns. Its not like a Bobcat that you can spin on track forward and one backward. Tight turns will walk my track off. The proper way to make turns is to plant the bucket lift the machine up so that the back of the tracks are making a small footprint on the ground ( bout 1 foot). With most of the machine in the air rotate one track and move the boom at the same time so the machine pivots in the direction you want to turn. Hope that helps, also running over stumps and big rocks can twist the track off as well. This is very common on these smaller machines, less so on the big ones.
I'll second Quicktrax as well. Lift the track in question and run it while it is off the ground. If the idler bushing is bad enough to throw the track you should see the idler moving or jumping back and forth.
Long story short, our EX60lc-5 was doing the same, would through one side of all the time! finally had enough so pulled the track and the spring was broken in the middle in 2 places! replaced and never came of since!!
Hi there P reilly, did you have any luck, i may have a adjuster complete unit with spring ready to fit if your intersted?
