hi folks, i want to buy a tractor for using a snow blower but i relly like to know how stuff works befor getting involve with this, i know backhoe excavator skidsteer hevy truck but the tractor betewwn the engin ant the rear end is a total mistery for me how can you use the pto a 1500 rmp or so and shift gear ? or even switch direction t am not talking cvt ou hydrostatic those i understant but some 16 speed powershift i have no clue on how that works and how hard it is to repaire i did a shutlle job on my 580k backhoe that was fairly easy ther is a drive shaft but i see some tractor split in 2 to change a clutch ??? thanks four your time sorry for my bad englise i am a french canadien ;-)
The simple answer is the pto shaft runs through the transmission on a different shaft from the transmission. So the pto runs at 540 or 1,000 rpm AT a certain high engine speed, and a percentage of 540 or 1,000 rpm at less than "full" engine speed. A live pto has a separate clutch for the transmission and pto, you want this for blowing snow. I imagine a hydrostatic transmission could be very useful for blowing snow also. The powershift is going to be more complicated and way more expensive than the shuttle. Splitting a tractor to do a clutch isn't as bad as it seems, unless there's a loader etc. in the way.
- In the most common tractor transmissions there is a PTO shaft which goes straight from the flywheel threw all the gearbox (in a hollow shaft) all the way to the back off the tractor. in the rear end there will be the gears for 540/1000,540E,1000E pto speeds and a clutch pack to engage the PTO. - there's also a hollow shaft(where the PTO shaft is in) coming straight from the flywheel, when you'll have a "normal" gearbox there will be a dry or wet clutch somewhere inbetween the flywheel and the main transmission shaft. - when you'll have a powershift gearbox (or semi powershift) the drive clutch is usely taken over by on off the clutchpacks that will control the different gears. The semi-powershift (which will shift 4 gears and have 4-6 powershift gears) will go back an forward in one unit. In this unit there are 2 clutchpacks, on for forward and one for reverse. The reverse is created by using a planetary drive inside this clutch unit. - hydrostatic is when you'll pump oil to a hydraulic motor connected to the wheels (like combines, harvesters) a CVT is something different which (depends a bit on what brand you look at) will use hydraulic power to change/control the ring gear, or satelite, or sun wheel speed from an planetary drive. Fendt for example will be 100% mechanical transmission (prise-direct) when working on top speed and will be 100% hydrostatic when going from a stand still. New Holland has a similair system but they use a much smaller/faster turning vario which behind they put a 4 gear powershift transmission. to bring down the RPM and turn up the torque. Due to the electronics you don't feel its shifting gears and it looks like it runs in one long gear. John Deere has two systems for CVT, one with 4 gears and one with just 2. Hope you got some more info about transmissions in the Ag business. for your needs, i would be nice to have a CVT transmission, but usely a CVT makes a tractor a bit more expensive to buy. CVT is more likely to break down due to wear and tear but the are cheaper to rebuild (or swith CVT modules) then a powershift transmission. how ever the powershift transmission hardly break down. to give you a look in how much work replacing/rebuilding a powershift will be compared to a Fendt Vario: Fendt Vario you can replace the vario unit comfortable in a days work, powershift will take a day to get underneath the tractor and a couple off days to put new parts in and line everything up. good luck, Meindert Bunt
hey thanks thats is one verry informatif post i like older stuff paid for so it might look like an 1998 CASE IH MX100CA or 2007 NEW HOLLAND TN75DA or 1998 NEW HOLLAND TS100 and 1991 CASE 695 those run about 13 000 to 25 000$ were i live i see few hydrosttic 50 hp tractor pass by but they sell relly fast and i find the a bit small we have sone severe snow store some time so i would like to get somme ting like a 100 hp with loader and snow blower if i understant right hydrostatic are pretty bullet proof so you can put almost any kid on the machine and he can t break it normal gear box simple but not idot proof powershift more idiot proof but can cost a lot in maintenance
