this happened sunday afternoon. 15 cars loaded with soda ash. rerailed 1 put 14 in the ditch to clean up later.
Nice pics trainwreck. BTW, just what is the method of removing cars from site that are too damaged to put back on rail and still full of product?
the cars will all be cut open unloaded and hauled whole to the scrap yard.
Here's how they do Grain cars:
where were those pics taken at???
Wilson Creek, WA, back in Feb., were yours taken South, South East of The Dalles?
Wow, those projects look like a beehive of activity, neat. OK TW, you said they get emptied and hauled out whole. On what? Truck or flat rail car? Rail cars are heavy even empty. I lifted some aluminum alloy coal hopper cars off a spur track at a scrap yard years ago, and they were 64,000 lbs without the trucks.
baker city oregon. we haul the cars on long log trucks or flat beds.
here is what they will look like on a log truck.
used to see tank cars come in on rail here...that had minor damage... but that place was boarded up and the work sent to messico back in the 70's... I was driving during the night in Arizona.... but in the distance there were about a billion flashing lights.... couldn't really tell the color yet.... It was dang it... looks like I'll be stting for hours with a wreck that big... Turns out to be a trainwreck crew.... 30 to 40 tractors trailers... and about 20 escort cars... then pickups and some service type vehicles....... at least 75 total.... I had noticed earlier in california... railcars off the tracks on a 50 foot ? tall embankment...I think it was near the cal border on 40...
UP had one May '09 on that same sub. Right in that area if I remember right.
the may of 09 wreck is where that log truck with the car on it was at. this wreck is east of baker near durkee the 09 wreck was west of baker near the town of haines.
aint nothing like watching one of those go down. mid 70s i stood in my garage door and saw 7 railcars pile up. a load of new pontiacs about 75 ft from me. it will make one think about sitting at a crossing waiting the train to pass.
here i am laying new rail panels the morning of the wreck.
pics from the clean up now.
