I have a komatsu Pc210-5 which has a problem with its travel speed. The speed does not change if I touch the travel speed selector, but the indicator changes as I select from Low to High and vice-versa. It seems locked in high speed because it has difficulty in climbing. What could probably be the problem? I highly appreciate any response.
how many hours?
It has 16425 hours in it
your problem just might be this ... i am not sure how different the dash 5 (-5) machines are from mine ( dash 6 ).... but based on your description and the fact that you said it seems to be stuck in hi mode i think you may have a disconnected/short circuited travel speed solenoid or something similar .. normally you would hear a click when the engine is off and acc is on when switching between working modes and tracking speeds..
With that many hours there could be lots of issues to check out. The Dash 5 system is completely different from the Dash 6 but the function works about the same way. There is a solenoid in a stack behind the cab that sends oil down a hose through the swivel and on down to the travel motors. You can check the switch by touching it with your hand and feeling a click when shifted into and out of high range. You can also tee into the hose at the swivel and check for pressure. I've seen the swivel seals be bad and high pressure oil from the travel circuit gets into the two speed pilot circuit and shifts the swash plates in the motors. Usually when that happens the joy stick handles get stiff and hard to move. You could also have the solenoid valve leaking by. You will see that as pilot pressure on all the time even though you shift the travel mode to low. Good Luck!
Sir John C. is probably right on track. So all i have to do is to pressure test the lines going to swivel joint and then to travel motors. Could anyone provide me a repair manual of PC210-5?
