Yair . . . balls2go , link didn't work was it this one? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v0sXInuBGuQ Interesting machines but per acre costs were far too high on that light scrub and they couldn't handle heavy timber. They couldn't cross gullies and so were very limited in what they could do . . . you didn't want to get them stuck. Cheers.
Interesting indeed..... So these machines just smash the trees and brush down to the ground? What then? Do they just leave it?
Yair . . . LT-x7 In Australia the normal situation is to knock the scrub down and burn it in place and that's what they attempted to do with these machines in the Moura district in the early 'sixties. As mentioned the machines were too expensive couldn't compete with chains and dozers. They tried to chain with them but, unlike a dozer, they couldn't back over the chain and found it difficult on corners. Also, with no blade they couldn't cross the breakaway (erosion) gullies that are common in the Brigalow country. In big country although they could push okay again, with no blades, they had to scramble over trunks and rootballs. All in all they were pretty much a waste of money. I believe the availability was not that flash either and eventually they were abandoned. Cheers.
Can't imagine the ride being very comfortable, especially in that last one. Hope those guys had air seats...
Here's a strange one...tree stomper. The guys riding the foot looks kind of dangerous. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s7yw4qzRdl4
