What in your opinion best truck crane, which hydraulic arm configuration?

I don't think theres an easy answer to "best crane / configuration" - Many factors to sort out - How much you need to lift, how classy a truck, what do you haul, deliver, etc - I wanted an inexpensive way to move logs mostly, bought a '74 grain truck with 15' dump body, cut 3 ft from the front and installed a Hiab behind the cab. Does all I need it to for under 10,000 dollars.

As someone who has spent many years operating Palfinger and Cormach loader cranes, the optimum setup depends on the intended usage of the unit. If you want to use it in conjunction with a tipper deck, then obviously it needs to be front mounted. For flatdecks that cart long or awkward loads, then a front mount may also be preferable. But for most other units, rear mount is preferred... At least around here.

Thanks for your clarification, the engine with integrated crane as it behaves under load on the road with trim and vehicle stability

Here's my crane, I primarily use it to run a felling grapple saw on the end of the boom, but we do occasionally use it as a crane, like in this picture.
