Union or NON-Union in KC, Missouri

JD9520 ยท 2010-02-13 21:47

Is the Local Operating Union strong in KC, MO? Having been hearing that the Local is losing a lot of members. Is there any truth to that? Are the non-union companies taking a lot of members and work?

Years back I worked in Connecticut with a dude from KC, he was a good asphalt mill operator and had left there because the pay was around $10 an hour. In CT we were making $27 an hour plus benefits. Unions are generally weak in southern states with certain trade exceptions IE cranes/steamfitters/rail. Union or not, you have to make a living right? joining one has good and bad points....Theres a fella that comes to this server that knows EVERYTHING there is to know about unions, Jmason or something like that..... Theres plenty of threads about unions already here if you have a look through personnel and the older threads...this one will be moved when the mods see it.

It just seems that the STL area is union and the KC side is going NON-Union. I have been hearing that the local is losing a lot of their memberships due to the rise of non-union contractors. Just woundering whats happening over on the west side of the state.
