Is there a universal fluid i can use for my 97 model cat 320 excavator or do i need to buy the cat oil. Thanks
You don't have to buy Cat oil. Any good quality (i.e. Major brand) hydraulic oil of SAE10W viscosity will do the trick for you.
Thanks Nige that will save me about $100.00 per 5 gal
Just don't go buying oil from Joe Blow's Gas & Groceries. Stick to something like Mobil, Texaco, Shell, Chevron, etc, and you'll be fine.
theres different types/ grades of hydraulic fluid or oil used in hydraulic systems. you can look up in your owners manual or on the back of the cat hydraulic fluid bottle and see what the grade is, then just match that up with any other brand oil that meets your needs but is cheaper. this web site explains different grades and what to look for pretty well. http://www.hfifluidpowerproducts.com/Pages/Hydraulic-Fluid.html
AW 46 of any name brand.
Amazing how Americans who apparently hate all things metric are happy to use Metric/ISO fluid viscosity designations ..... :tong:tong AW46 is actually the equivalent of SAE15. AW32 is the equivalent of SAE10 which is the viscosity specified by Cat.
