Used Cat excavator

Spike81 · 2023-04-02 08:51

Dear Members, first of all sorry for my bad english. Im looking for some help to select an excavator. This year i had a work where i need one for moving around 60.000 meter cube of soil, end of the year it goes back to market, i sell it. I need one in the 20-25 ton class, budget: 45-50k EUR netto I already take a look at some possible options: Cat 318CL 2003, 9300hours, 38k EUR Cat 320CL 2003, 12000hours, 39k EUR Cat 322L 1995, 9600hours 44k EUR Cat 320DL 2008, 9800hours 44k EUR I know it depends on lot of things is it worth to buy or not... My main question is, is there a model number/series, or year and model that was a really good construction? When i know what to look after, maybe i have some luck and find one in good condition. Thank you for you help! Best regards Gábor from Hungary

Of that list, the 1995 is old enough to avoid a bunch of emissions problems. Is this the machine? The tilt bucket is nice if you needed it, but if you need a digging bucket you need to budget for that. That smooth bucket would be no fun in hard digging, Go ahead and post links on the rest of the choices. It will help others to help you. EDIT: I found more. The 318 bucket is junk, they lost the teeth and wore off the shanks. https://www.marketbook.ca/listings/construction-equipment/for-sale/221553211/2003-cat-318cl It would be good to tell us more about the job too. If it is overburden or rehandling loose material then the bucket does not matter as much. If it is undisturbed glacial till, you need to get the right bucket too.

Thank you for the fast answer. I have two lakes, the little one is 1,7km long and 100-120m wide. This lake is since two years dry, we would like to remove average 0,3m from the bottom. A bulldozer (i already buy one) will remove the soil to the edge, at the edge of the lake we build like a wall from wood 1,7km long. What the bulldozer pull to the edge we must move over the wall with an excavator. After we finish with this, we build the base for 31 fishing house. I also would like to use the excavator to drill 310 piece of hole for the concrete base. 2,5m deep with an Auger Torque 15000 MAX The soil is loess, without stones. Yes that is the 1995 Cat. I don't need a tilt bucket, i need something for earth moving, worst case I buy a bucket or try to speak with the seller to change it. Yes the 318 need a new bucket. This machines are from this seller from the Netherlands: HB Trucks & Equipment Hirdetések HB Trucks & Equipment . Keresés eredménye: 145 hirdetés machineryline.hu The biggest fear for me is to catch a bad series. As sample, don't buy model X from year X... The next step is to catch one in good condition. Thanks! Gábor

Welcome to the Forums Spike! Glad to have you. All of those machines are Tier 3 so no issue with emissions. Just off the cuff the D series Cat excavators are my favorite. I've owned 2- C series, 3- D series and 1- F series. Like Sky said post some links to the other machines as condition plays the most important role.

I have no direct experience with those models. Many of the posters here only post during the week, so be patient and they will come along. EDIT: sounds like a fun job, sounds like a destination fishing lake with cabins in an area with very deep frost so you are setting your cabins on deep piers. Keep in mind those frost forces will act on your wood bulkhead too.

Is 9500 hour for a machine from 2008 normal? can it be that someone plays with the counter? and it is already 15000? Best regards Gábor

Hello skyking1, the problem is not the frost, the problem is the water level in the soil. Last year a company made a lot of little drills 5m deep and pick the samples. The engineer get the info, and with this information he made the plan for the base. Best regards Gábor
