The volvo 120b 6cu yard bucket we have at work has got something screwy wrong with the hydralics . When you go to raise the bucket is slow and if you raise it as high as it will go and let go of joy stick is slowly leaks down ... ive recently had the lift cylinders both packed and removed valve body under the cab on joy stick side out and cleaned it and removed soloniod valve body at the front end apart and cleaned it again i found nothing wrong . i have the valve body that bolts to front end apart now and nothing ...With out a pressure gauge how can i tell if pump is weak or bad or am i missing something

It sounds like the lift shock valve is bad, the only way to really know that is to test it with a jig. You can feel the pump if it is extremely hot to the touch then I would think pump, but that would not cause it to leak down.

ok which is the lift shock .... the parts book i have list a accumulator and another valve but this volvo doesnt have this...you say test it with a jig how?

I had a problem like this before on a Volvo L30, not the exact same problem but simaliar! there is a lever under the seat (not 100% sure if its on the 120) that is for a float, if its half way on it MAY cause this problem! I could be way of but its worth a try! keep us posted Aiden

What you have there is part of the boom lowering system according to the prosis (online parts) section 916/600

well Direct the bottom picture is the one making a lot of noise once you pull the joystick back maybe a 1/4 inch to raise the bucket up

Do any lines from the top picture go to the valve in bottom picture, if so do you think that you can bypass the the valve in bottom picture and go direct to the main control valve. I will look at work to find some hyd. schematics.

yes they do? and i have looked today on how i could bypass bottom pic with the servo pack i can bypass but i still dont know which lines to which , some are color coded yellow and red and yellow and red with a zip tie

Direct tech once this is fixed it is gone .. the 120d will be the mulch loader and we are getting a new 180 but before that happens i got to fix this and sister company gets it

Ok got pressure gauge and hose kit from volvo and didnt have much time to do any checks ,but one the main pump behind the cab on left side isnt showing but 250 lbs of pressure at idle and 1500 at 1900 rpms ...im going to do more checks but im sure the pump is weak i have one to put on that was brought before i went to work there 5 years ago and that wasnt the problem .
