Hi all, Had a visit from a salesperson wanting to demo a Volvo EC460BLC excavator. Never had any dealings with this product before, but they seem popular enough.Good size for heavy sewer work which is what we mainly into. What's the general consenus on these machines? Thanks for any help, Dominion :canada
I ran a volvo couple years ago it had a heavy boom and stick I found But it had a nice cab with some nice operator features it was a 360 i think and it was used as a side hoe on water sewer and I could easily keep up moving the 450s pile back.
we have several volvo's. the 330 is a hog and out works anything else we have tried. i spoke with another contractor who was using his 330 for sewer pulling two boxes stacked at 20' depth and his comment was "we never got our boxes stuck with that volvo."
We've tried almost every other brand over the years and ended up purchasing a Volvo 160B. While all newer machines are nice, the Volvo has held up like a rock and sips fuel.
Volvo A little back round on their experience...for my 2c worth they are a great piece of equipment.
Volvo....Good machine, nice cab set up good workhorse to. I have just come off a 460 on muck shift, easy life, did a bit of deep sewer work with it too no problems with boxes either
I like mine. They are nicely equipped with lots of features. Mine is a 240 rated at 185 hp, and i used 17 l/hr on my latest job, working pretty hard. That was running full out. Dial the throttle down for lighter work, and i get down to 12l/hr. Mine doesn't have a work mode function like some ive seen. No priority switches and whatnot. All you have is a throttle dial, which you set according to the type of work you are doing. It also has a button to boost the working pressure from about 4800 psi to about 5200 psi for 10 secs. So unless you hit the button, you don't have access to max pressure. Whether that is a feature or a flaw is open for discussion. Large fuel tank, lots of filters. Good AC and heat. Fast travel
Hi, Thanks for the info. They look like a well balanced machine and probably decent on fuel, given the size of the machine.Cab visibilty and comfort seem right up with all the others. Will more than likely try it. Dominion:canada
Something to consider. When working for a major demolition contractor, we had several volvo machines. We dealt with a handful of computer issues, and constant updates from Volvo. The major issue we ran into was track pad life. We were constantly on concrete. Most of our Volvo track pads were worn down to the track bolts in a year. Cat machines twice, and even three times as old, still had yet to wear down to the track bolts.
i just spent $5k on a computer for one of our 330b's.
I wondered where samsung went
We ran a couple Volvo long reaches on a ditch job and were extremely impressed. Very fuel efficient and smooth too. The guy I was running it for used it for a couple days and swore it would be his next machine. The cab was real comfortable too.
i like the 140b's volvo hadnt had a chance on the c series maybe on this size of machine a little slower than hitachi or komatsu but id say the volvo is a hell of a lot stronger
Volvobl, is that a Volvo BL in your pic?
yes it is
Dont see many on this forum, how do you find it? What do you have, 61 or 71?
You can't compare the b series to the c two different machine altogether. B's had some some issues but the I really like the C series plus you can't beat the warranty(as volvo pays for the tech to come to you)
This is the only bad thing I have to say about my EC160B. $4800.00 for a new computer.
Had a ec240BLC...had 9000 hours by the time we traded her in (which has since been purchased and still going strong)....It's last job with us was a 80,000ton bulk out and she did it with ease. All original gear in her apart from tracks. Was fairly heavy on fuel but controls were incredibly smooth and had an abundance of power. We traded her in on a EC240CLC....Every time i jump on it it amazes me as to how smooth it is. Cab is very user friendly with a big LCD screen, reverse camera. Every operator we put on it comment on it's operation and say it's one of the better ones they've operated. Alot easier on fuel than the B. Volvo service is very thorough aswell.
absolutuely love her to bits shes a 2007 bl71 has joystick control pushes like a d8 and digs like an akerman a real good allrounder cant wait to try the bl71b which i will add if i have enough $$$$$$ in my bank i will get 1. but the one i got has about 1500 hrs on her so far so im in no rush of trading this one yet. I also have a 2001 model Volvo EC35 ehich has about 7000hrs on her and still going strong and a EC55B 2008 with1200 hrs on her huge volvo fan and wont change
we do lots of sewer work have a 360 volvo and komatsu 400 360 has very jumpy hydraulics no visibility for overhead wires with no sunroof very jumpy setting big pipe 20 foot plates etc. excellent site machine no fun in the street
Sounds good. So yours is a phase 2 machine. I work for the Volvo dealer in South Africa, we sell alot of the BL's. Have you had any hassles with it? The new B series does look good. Just hope the new cab holds up. We have not had any problems with the D5D motor so I'm sure it will be good in the B. We dont bring in the EC35, only the EC55B and they are pretty good. Have not done anything major on the few I look after. The 71 is definetly the pick of the bunch, ours come with a 4 in 1 bucket and extender boom.
yes same here no probs only the little ram for the boom lock keeps leaking everytime i fix it few months it does it again but thats nothing to worry about
I've replaced a few of those, they have superseded a few times so hopefully the latest one is better. Pity you so far, I have a service exchange unit. Whereabouts in the UK are you?
im in mid wales not far off aberystwyth
